Massage Covered by Health Insurance
I tried accepting insurance at my practice years ago and decided it wasn’t worth the hassle for me. The insurance agencies took forever to send the check and there was always a ton of red tape. I decided the easiest thing for me to do was to work part time at a chiropractic office that excepted health insurance programs and let them deal with all the paper work. I wanted to do what I loved doing which was/is massage therapy. I didn’t have time for all that other stuff. Of course, I did want to get paid and a lot of clients that really need massage therapy can’t afford to pay for it out of pocket.
I think it’s getting easier to place a claim and collect as far as massage goes. I know most health insurance carriers have a Wellness Program that always covers therapeutic massage therapy and also your chiropractic care. Most doctors these days are happy to write a prescription for massage therapy rather than antidepressants or other mood altering prescription drugs. There is a typical code that your agency can supply to you to place a claim with most health insurance carriers.
I always try to talk with my clients about there health insurance just because I would love for them to keep their money in their pockets. Most people these days have health insurance and if Hillary Clinton gets elected maybe we all will and then we can all have great massages and be happy all the time! Okay, I’m coming back to earth now, but seriously, getting your insurance to pay for your massage these days isn’t as complicated as it used to be.
